Algeria will complete the construction of the largest railway bridge in Africa by the end of October 2026, according to the National Agency for Railway Infrastructure Implementation (ANESRIF).

The bridge, located in Béchar, will span over 4.1 kilometers. This infrastructure project is part of the mega-project involving the 950-kilometer Béchar–Tindouf–Gara Djebilet mining railway line. The current completion rate of the bridge stands at 78%.

"Given the scale of this engineering masterpiece, several specialized teams have been mobilized and specific equipment deployed at the construction site," said ANESRIF's Director of Public Relations, Abdelkader Mazarr.

Precast yards have been established on-site to produce specialized concrete, and plants have been equipped with cooling systems to maintain work progress even during the summer season.

This infrastructure development in Algeria follows a recent announcement by its regional competitor, Morocco. On September 19, King Mohammed VI of Morocco launched the implementation of several strategic projects as part of the modernization of the port and adjacent complex in Casablanca. Approximately €460 million has been allocated for this infrastructure development. The new fishing port will be able to accommodate over 260 small fishing boats and about 100 coastal vessels.
