The Sudanese Armed Forces have reported the destruction of a drone launched from Ethiopian territory amid ongoing combat operations against the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The statement was published by the Sudanese army's press service.
According to the statement, on May 23, the drone entered Sudanese airspace from Ethiopian territory, after which the Sudanese army destroyed it near Ed Damazin, the capital of the border state of Blue Nile.
"The Sudanese Armed Forces shot down a hostile drone near Damazin after it entered Sudanese airspace from Ethiopia," the statement said.
Earlier in May, Khartoum International Airport and two military installations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum came under drone attack by RSF rebels. The army's official spokesman, Brigadier General Aseem Awad Abdelwahhab, said the Sudanese Armed Forces have evidence of UAE and Ethiopian involvement in supporting the RSF and using drones to strike the country.
Subsequently, Sudan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohieddin Salem, announced the recall of the country's ambassador from Ethiopia for consultations.
Addis Ababa, for its part, has denied the allegations from the Sudanese Armed Forces. The UAE has also rejected Khartoum's accusations.
The civil war in Sudan between the RSF and the regular army has been ongoing since April 2023.
