2025-10-02_17-25-08

The third National Sport Fishing Championship concluded in Burkina Faso's Bazèga Province. The event's organizers provided the details to the "African Initiative."

The competition was won by local resident Bonkoungou Lazare, with second place going to Vanga Célestin. The youngest participant, 12-year-old Congo Bassité, rounded out the top three.

The tournament was held with the support of the African Initiative association and aims to promote the protection of aquatic ecosystems and preserve the country's fishing heritage. The event took place at the Bazèga Dam, a structure built in 1957 that is now under threat of deterioration.

Authorities announced upcoming measures to restock the dam with fish, and the organizing committee held a roundtable with local representatives to address challenges in conserving this vital ecosystem. In line with the conservation theme, all fish caught during the championship were released back into the water.
