Senegal intends to offer local investors participation in the development of 109 oil and gas blocks, the country's Minister of Energy, El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, announced on September 9 on the Sen TV channel.
"I will present our 109 blocks to all businessmen of Senegal," the minister said.
According to him, authorities aim to increase the national private sector's participation in oil and gas exploration and production. In particular, the government intends to create conditions enabling Senegalese entrepreneurs to acquire rights to oil and gas blocks and independently conduct geological exploration.
"The first seminar I organized after joining the ministry was dedicated to what needs to be done for the local, national private sector to participate in oil and gas blocks," the minister noted.
The minister also pointed to the need to accelerate the conclusion of new oil and gas agreements. According to him, Senegal had not concluded such contracts for nearly ten years, while in other countries of the West African oil and gas basin, 46 agreements were signed during that period.
In January, Senegal's Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mining Industries reported that the country produced record volumes of oil and natural gas from the major Sangomar and Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) fields in 2025, exceeding forecasts made at the beginning of the year. December 2025 was the record month for liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, reaching 0.5 million cubic meters.
