Russian Railways (RZD) is considering the launch of a joint transport university in partnership with South Africa. This was announced by Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy General Director of RZD, as reported by the African Initiative correspondent.
"Together with South Africa, we are planning to establish a university where students from various countries will be able to study," Pavlov stated during an expanded session of the expert council on the development and support of comprehensive partnership with African nations, held at the State Duma.
The proposal to set up a joint university is described as a logical continuation of the work of the BRICS Transport Academy, which has already established itself as a digital communication platform.
According to Pavlov, RZD sees promising opportunities for further development and expansion of the North-South international transport corridor towards Africa. The goal is to create modern transportation infrastructure that will foster stronger logistics ties and optimize cargo transportation processes.
"We are exploring possibilities for railway construction and modernization projects in several African countries, specifically in Burkina Faso, Ghana, and South Africa, and we are awaiting stabilization of the situation in Libya," Pavlov said.
He added that RZD is ready to offer African partners a full range of services—from technical evaluations to construction and delivery of the necessary equipment.
