The second meeting of the Russian-Namibian working group on geology and subsoil use took place in Namibia's capital, Windhoek, with the sides discussing partnership in mineral exploration and waste management. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology.

The Russian delegation was led by Ivan Kushch, Director of the Department for International Cooperation in Natural Resources and Environmental Protection at the Ministry of Natural Resources. During the meeting, special attention was paid to issues of exploration and assessment of beneficial waters due to Namibia's water resource deficit.

"At the meeting ... the sides discussed promising areas for joint activity, including the field of solid mineral exploration. During a meeting with Windhoek's Managing Director Moses Matyayi, the Russian side shared experience in implementing the national project 'Environmental Well-being' in establishing a municipal solid waste management system," the statement read.

The Russian delegation also visited several waste disposal, processing, and recycling facilities and submitted proposals to Namibia for improving waste management in the country. The parties agreed to consider waste management as one of the priority areas of partnership.

Additionally, during the meeting, the sides agreed to increase cooperation in personnel training for Namibia. Specifically, the Russian Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra) and the Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University presented training programs and options for targeted education for Namibian citizens to the Namibian side.

In late January, Russian Ambassador to Namibia Dmitry Lobach and the African country's Minister of Environment and Tourism, Indileni Daniel, discussed the implementation of a uranium mining project carried out by subsidiaries of the state corporation Rosatom.
