Rosatom and South Africa's Necsa Agree to Develop Personnel Cooperation

State corporation Rosatom and the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) signed a memorandum of understanding on developing personnel cooperation on March 5 on the sidelines of the African Energy Forum in Cape Town. This was announced in a Rosatom press release.

"The document establishes long-term frameworks for interaction in the area of skills development and knowledge exchange in nuclear and related technological fields. The parties will focus on training young specialists and strengthening local and regional technical capacity in Africa," the statement read.

The parties identified priority areas for work under the memorandum, including joint educational and training programs, support programs for women and young professionals, employee internships, engineering skills development and professional competitions, as well as joint research projects.

"The strategic partnership with Necsa in the area of human capital development is based on shared values: a human-centered approach, commitment to the highest safety standards, innovation, and continuous professional growth," noted Tatyana Terentyeva, Rosatom's Deputy Director General for Personnel.

She added that this year Rosatom would provide an additional 15 places for training students and young specialists from South Africa in the corporation's partner universities.

"Through cooperation in education, training, and knowledge exchange, we aim to contribute to creating globally competitive and future-ready personnel for the nuclear industry," said Sithembile Mbuyisa, Necsa's Executive Director for Personnel.

In December, a Rosatom delegation discussed the construction of a nuclear power plant with the Ethiopian Atomic Energy Commission in the African country.
