Putin Appoints New Russian Ambassador to Mauritania

 Alexei Malenko has been appointed as the new Russian Ambassador to Mauritania, replacing Boris Zhilko. This is stated in a decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin, published on the official portal for legal acts.


"Appoint Alexei Vladimirovich Malenko as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania," the document states.

Alexei Malenko has been in diplomatic service since 1996 and has extensive experience working in the central apparatus of the Russian Foreign Ministry and abroad. Since September 2017, he has served as head of a division in the State Protocol Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. In 2021, he was appointed as the Consul General of Russia in Cape Town, South Africa.

In November of last year, Putin appointed Sergei Chernenko as Ambassador to Burundi.
