The reconstruction of the Hassan Djamous International Airport in N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, is 64% complete. APA News reported this, citing the country's Ministry of Transport.
Chad's Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation, and National Meteorology, Fatima Goukouni Weddey, held a technical meeting to assess the project's progress. She emphasized the need to adhere to the timelines strictly, taking into account the approaching rainy season in the region.
The completion of work on the central axis of the runway is scheduled for June 17, according to Elabdi Ellaloui Younus, the head of the construction monitoring mission. The remaining phases include the reconstruction of the side strips and turnaround areas, which will be carried out in parallel with projects for power supply and signal lighting equipment.
The Minister underlined the importance of strictly following the established schedule and operational regime of the airport to minimize inconvenience for airlines and ensure smooth air travel. She also urged the oversight team and regulatory body to work more closely with the contractor responsible for implementing the project.
Chadian authorities expect that the upgraded airport infrastructure will enhance regional and international transportation connectivity and increase the country's competitiveness in the aviation sector.
