The poverty rate in Sudan has reached 71% due to the ongoing conflict in the country. This was announced by the country's Minister of Social Welfare, Mutasim Ahmed Saleh, during a press conference, as reported by Sudan Tribune.
"According to official reports, the poverty rate in Sudan has increased from 21% to 71% because of the war," he stated.
Saleh mentioned that the state will strive to reduce poverty through productive projects and job creation.
At the end of October, the Sudanese Doctors' Network reported that three children are dying daily from hunger and disease in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.
The civil war in Sudan between the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the national army has been ongoing since April 2023.
