Niger's President Abdourahmane Tchiani and the World Bank's Regional Vice President for Western and Central Africa, Ousmane Diagana, met on October 3 to discuss the strategy and prospects of their partnership. The meeting was reported by the Niger Press Agency (ANP).

Following the World Bank delegation's visit to Niamey from October 1-3, Diagana noted the resilience of Niger's economy in the face of external shocks. He also expressed the World Bank's interest in strengthening this resilience and "ensuring shared prosperity for all." In this context, he announced the development of a new five-year partnership strategy with the West African nation.

"The World Bank is currently developing a five-year partnership strategy with Niger, and we would like this strategy to align with the vision and priorities of the Nigerien authorities. During our mission, we aligned on the direction our new strategy should take," emphasized the World Bank Vice President.

Among the key outcomes of the delegation's visit, he highlighted a review of the implementation progress of World Bank-funded projects in Niger. These include initiatives aimed at creating jobs for the country's youth and women. The parties also focused on the steps needed to complete another long-term development program—the Kandadji project, launched several years ago.

In a related regional development, the World Bank allocated $95 million to Mali in February 2025 for the "Securing Safe Drinking Water" project, designed to provide 500,000 Malians with access to clean water.
