Police officers from Namibia are currently undergoing forensic training in Russia, according to Joseph Shimweelao Shikongo, Chief Inspector of the Namibian Police, as reported to an African Initiative correspondent.
"We have the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Windhoek and we cooperate in many areas, including training programs. Some of my officers are presently in Moscow, receiving forensic training," Shikongo said on the sidelines of the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues.
He emphasized the need to further strengthen security cooperation between Namibia and Russia.
Inspector Shikongo also identified cybercrime, poaching, illegal border crossings, and theft as some of the most pressing challenges facing Namibia.
"I can assure you that, overall, the security and safety situation regarding crime in my country is quite stable and manageable," he added.
The 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues is taking place from May 27 to 29 at the National Center "Russia" in Moscow. The event has attracted representatives from 45 delegations, spanning over 40 African countries as well as key international organizations, including the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
