Media: Sudan’s Rebels Expel Villagers to Establish Military Base

 In Sudan, rebels from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have forcibly displaced residents from the village of Tura, north of El Fasher, to establish a military stronghold. This was reported by the Sudan Tribune, citing a military source.

According to the source, the base is intended to facilitate the movement of RSF commanders. The incident occurred amid escalating hostilities in the El Fasher region and a severe deterioration of the humanitarian situation, including shortages of food and shelter.

Witnesses told the publication that a large contingent of militants entered the village and ordered residents to immediately vacate their homes, triggering a mass displacement of thousands of people. Some of them have reportedly headed toward Libya.

Tura had remained a key trade hub for surrounding villages and El Fasher since the beginning of the war. The RSF had previously accused residents of smuggling food and medical supplies into the besieged city. In March, the Tura market was hit by an airstrike, resulting in dozens of casualties.

In a related development, between September 14 and 15, 90% of displaced persons evacuated the Abu Shuk camp in North Darfur due to the advance of the Rapid Support Forces.

The civil war in Sudan between the RSF and the national army began in April 2023.
