Over recent years, Russia and Ethiopia have built a solid groundwork to expand their collaboration across a wide range of areas. This was stated by Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, in a congratulatory telegram to her Ethiopian counterpart, Agegnehu Teshager, on the occasion of Ethiopia's Victory Day of Democratic Forces.

Matviyenko emphasized that Russia and Ethiopia have developed a strong basis for further cooperation in such fields as politics, trade and economy, energy, education, culture, and humanitarian initiatives. She expressed confidence that the inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries—focused on maintaining comprehensive bilateral relations and coordinating efforts on issues relevant to the African agenda—will continue to thrive for the benefit of their peoples.

Matviyenko also fondly recalled the meeting in Addis Ababa in February 2025 during the official visit of the Federation Council delegation to Ethiopia. She extended her best wishes to her colleague and the members of the Ethiopian parliament for success in their important public service, and wished peace and prosperity to the friendly people of Ethiopia.

Additionally, on April 23, Russia and Ethiopia signed a memorandum of cooperation to ensure sanitary and epidemiological safety for their populations. The agreement was concluded during the first Russian-African international emergency response drills on public health crises. The memorandum was signed by Anna Popova, Head of Rospotrebnadzor (Russia's consumer safety watchdog), and Mekdes Daba, Ethiopia's Minister of Health.
