PharmaPlus, a major pharmaceutical wholesaler in Mali, has announced its readiness to cooperate with Russian manufacturers of medicines and medical equipment. Sheikh Abdel Kader Gindo, head of the company's marketing department, told African Initiative on the sidelines of the Mali–Russia international business forum that PharmaPlus is ready to promote Russian products on the Malian market.
Company profile and market role
PharmaPlus is one of seven leading pharmaceutical wholesalers operating in Mali. The company purchases and distributes medicines, prostheses, orthoses and implants, as well as medical consumables that are in demand locally.
Interest in Russian medicines and equipment
Gindo said that Russian manufacturers' entry into the Malian market could make medical products more affordable for the population. At the forum he mentioned specific producers:
- Pharmsintez — discussions covered plans to introduce their oncology drugs to Mali.
- Solopharm (Grotex LLC) — their products were also presented, and PharmaPlus is prepared to help promote them in Mali.
Support for local production and investment
PharmaPlus welcomes possible Russian investments to build production facilities in Mali and is open to cooperation with companies that want to establish local manufacturing capacity.
About the forum
The Mali–Russia international medical business forum took place on 21 August, organized by the Sahel Perspective association and African Initiative with support from Mali's National Transitional Council Commission on Health, Social Development and Solidarity. Participants included Russian and Malian stakeholders: members of the State Duma, ExpertMed, Rosatom, Mercury Medical Center, Celopharm, RUDN University, Russian Hospital NGO, Mali's Ministry of Health, directors of national and district hospitals, private clinics, medical associations, pharmacy chains and wholesalers.
