Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop held talks with Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Belgrade, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral ties, Mali's Foreign Ministry reported on September 2.
The meeting between Diop and his Serbian counterpart took place on the margins of the summit commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement. Serbia's Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of diversified cooperation for the development of relations between the two countries.
"Today I had the great pleasure of receiving Mali's Foreign Minister Diop during the high-level commemorative meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade. We took this opportunity to discuss ways to further develop cooperation in education, the economy, defense, sports, and other promising areas," Đurić said on social media.
The sides separately discussed prospects for cooperation in agriculture and education, as well as Mali's participation in the international exhibition "Expo-2027," which will be held in Belgrade.
Đurić also noted the successful implementation of the "Peace in Serbia" scholarship program, under which foreign students, including those from Mali, receive education at Serbian universities.
The Non-Aligned Movement is an international grouping of 121 developing countries that have declared their refusal to participate in military-political blocs.
Earlier in September, Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama, on the sidelines of the summit, stated that Africa should be represented among the permanent members of the UN Security Council.
