A Lebanese court has approved the release of Hannibal Gaddafi, the fifth son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, on bail set at $11 million. However, he is prohibited from leaving the country, according to an Al Jazeera correspondent.

Defense lawyer Laurent Bayon stated that the defense will challenge the financial bail amount, arguing that Gaddafi has been detained for 10 years and is subject to international sanctions.

Hannibal Gaddafi was arrested in December 2015 by Lebanese internal security forces. The charges against him are related to allegedly withholding information concerning the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr in Libya in 1978, despite the fact that Hannibal was only two years old at the time.

Muammar Gaddafi was killed during the Libyan civil war in 2011. Following his death, Hannibal Gaddafi fled to Algeria with his wife and later moved to Syria, where he resided until his arrest.
