Lavrov Announces Doubling of Quota for Ghanaian Students in Russia

The quota for Ghanaian citizens to study at Russian universities on Russian state scholarships will be nearly doubled starting in 2026, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on August 17 following talks with Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

"The country quota for Ghana currently stands at 120 places under scholarships provided by the Russian government, but starting from the current academic year, it will be practically doubled," Lavrov said.

According to the minister, the sides discussed humanitarian exchanges and the training of personnel for Ghana at Russian universities. He noted that cooperation in this area is at a good level.

During the talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa signed a visa-free agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports.

From August 16 to 19, Ghana's Foreign Minister will be on a working visit to Moscow. The discussions are expected to include the signing of an agreement on visa-free travel for diplomatic and service passports. This step will simplify the movement of officials and contribute to the further development of bilateral ties.
