Ethiopia's Ruling Party Promises Prosperity After Election Victory

 Ethiopia's ruling Prosperity Party has pledged to accelerate economic development, strengthen national unity, and improve living standards following its victory in the seventh general elections, according to a statement from the political party.

The party thanked citizens for their trust and emphasized that it views the victory "with humility, responsibility, and a renewed commitment to serving the public."

"The Prosperity Party holds deep respect for the voice and decision of the people. In fulfilling the trust placed in us and carrying out the responsible mission entrusted to us, we will continue to work resolutely, sincerely, and with special attention to ensure the comprehensive well-being of Ethiopia and its people in all areas," the statement read.

Among the priorities for the new term are strengthening the rule of law, improving food security, expanding employment opportunities, and accelerating sustainable economic transformation.

Furthermore, authorities intend to modernize the public service delivery system through digital technologies, reduce bureaucratic barriers, and intensify the fight against corruption.

Earlier in June, Ethiopia's electoral commission announced that the ruling Prosperity Party had won the seventh general elections in Ethiopia, securing 438 seats in the House of Peoples' Representatives (the lower chamber of parliament).

The elections in Ethiopia began on June 1.

Citizens elected 547 members of the lower house of the federal parliament — the Council of People's Representatives — as well as members of councils in nine regions. More than 54 million voters participated in the elections, choosing from 10,000 candidates representing 42 political parties, including the ruling Prosperity Party led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The Tigray region, where the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) rebels fought against the central government in 2021-2022, did not participate in the elections due to ongoing instability. Additionally, polling stations were not opened in eight districts of the Amhara region due to activity by the armed group Fano.
