The ongoing construction of Egypt's El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, involving Russia's state corporation Rosatom, stands as a clear sign of the growing partnership between Cairo and Moscow. This was highlighted by Deputy Foreign Minister of Egypt, Abu Bakr Hefny Mahmoud, during a meeting of senior security representatives in Moscow, as reported to RIA Novosti.

Mahmoud underlined that Egypt and Russia share a long-standing relationship in security, defense, and economic cooperation, and that the El-Dabaa nuclear project is a significant symbol of these strong ties. He noted that the Egyptian delegation aims to discuss not only the latest developments at the El-Dabaa plant, but also prospects for the Russian Industrial Zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

In April, the Rosatom subsidiary "RASU" began deploying a local computer network infrastructure for the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, marking a major milestone for Egypt's first atomic energy facility. The plant is located in the Mediterranean city of El-Dabaa and will feature four reactors, each with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts.

Construction of the plant is governed by 2017 agreements that entrust Russia not only with building the station, but also with supplying nuclear fuel throughout its operational lifespan, and training Egyptian specialists during the plant's first ten years. Additionally, the Russian side is responsible for building storage facilities and providing containers for spent nuclear fuel. According to Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, the first power unit is expected to be launched in 2028.

This state-of-the-art project is set to boost Egypt's energy capacity, support technology transfer, and strengthen the strategic alliance between the two countries in the years ahead.
