Egypt has urged both India and Pakistan to prioritize peace and immediately resume diplomatic dialogue following the recent escalation of conflict between the two countries, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
> "Egypt is following with deep concern the current developments in India and Pakistan, including yesterday's exchange of strikes which resulted in casualties. Egypt emphasizes the need to take all possible measures to de-escalate the situation and prevent further deterioration or an expansion of the conflict. We call on both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint and restart diplomatic engagement as soon as possible," the statement said.
Tensions between India and Pakistan sharply increased after an April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir left 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national dead. Indian authorities claimed to have obtained evidence linking Pakistan's intelligence agencies to the attack. In response, both countries imposed reciprocal restrictions, suspended bilateral agreements, and closed their airspace to each other.
On the night of May 7, the Indian armed forces launched strikes against targets in Pakistan and the Pakistan-administered part of Kashmir. In retaliation, Pakistan carried out a series of counterattacks. Reports indicate that the recent clashes have resulted in over 30 fatalities and about 90 injuries.
The international community, including Egypt, is closely monitoring the situation and urging both sides to avoid further escalation and seek a peaceful solution through dialogue and negotiation.
