On August 13, the Republic of Congo hosted the Miss Indépendance beauty pageant, dedicated to the country's Independence Day, a correspondent for African Initiative reports.

The show brought together 20 contestants from across the country, who competed in five rounds, including walks in urban and evening wear, a dance segment in traditional costumes, and a swimsuit competition. Six finalists emerged as winners in various categories, with the main finalist receiving the crown and the title of Miss Independence 2026.

The event was held in the country for the 18th time, organized by the cultural association Lumières d'Afriques and the Ministry of Culture, Arts, National Heritage, and Tourism of the Republic of Congo.

The winner of the competition was Cynthia Laurinda Montago, a 22-year-old student at Marien Ngouabi University.

On August 15, the Republic of Congo celebrated the 66th anniversary of its independence. On the occasion of the holiday, President Denis Sassou Nguesso addressed the nation.
