An International Conference on Combating Crimes of the Colonial Era in Africa will be held in Algeria from November 30 to December 1, according to RIA Novosti, citing the North African country's embassy in Moscow.

The event is organized under the patronage of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and aligns with the African Union's 2025 theme: "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations." Participants include ministers, specialists in law and history, and representatives from the expert community.

The conference will discuss the humanitarian, cultural, economic, environmental, and legal aspects of colonial crimes. Particular emphasis will be placed on providing reparations to victims and establishing a legal mechanism for this process.

Following the discussions, the Algiers Declaration will be adopted, outlining principles for documenting colonial crimes and restoring the rights of victims of colonialism.

In October, the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming December 14 as the International Day Against Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations. The resolution draft was prepared by the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, with the support of Russia.
