Chad to Introduce Visa-Free Travel for All African Countries from January 2027

 Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno announced during the African Water Forum in N'Djamena that entry visas for all citizens of African countries will be abolished starting January 1, 2027, the local portal Tchad Infos reported.

"Chad, ... the cradle of humanity, is opening its borders and abolishing entry visas for all Africans, effective January 1, 2027," the head of state declared.

He called the decision a commitment to "African integration and the free movement of goods and people," adding that Chad aims to strengthen its position as a "crossroads of Africa," linking the western, eastern, northern, and central parts of the continent.

This decision will make Chad the eighth country on the continent to adopt visa-free access for Africans in favor of free movement. Previously, Rwanda, Benin, Gambia, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya, and the Republic of Congo announced similar measures.

Earlier in July, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced the signing of a visa-free agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports between Russia and Chad.
