Chad and Niger have agreed to strengthen cooperation across economic, security and energy sectors during talks held in Niamey as part of a two-day working visit by Chad's President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. Invited by Niger's leader Abdourahmane Tchiani, Déby arrived in Niamey on 6 August and met with Tchiani and expanded delegations to discuss a range of mutual priorities.

On security the presidents reaffirmed their solidarity and mutual support in the fight against terrorism, welcoming the improved coordination between their defence and security forces that has produced tangible results against irregular armed groups in the Lake Chad basin. They instructed their defence ministers to convene promptly to strengthen the legal framework and operational cooperation, which is expected to include enhanced intelligence sharing, joint border operations and capacity‑building measures.

In economic and trade matters the leaders expressed a shared commitment to boost bilateral commerce and investment. They welcomed the forthcoming memorandum of understanding on trade and investment, and agreed to step up joint efforts to combat fraud and unfair competition and to promote the use of regional trade corridors. Niger pledged to increase diesel supplies to Chad, and pending a formal customs agreement both administrations were directed to ease transit procedures to facilitate deliveries. The two sides also agreed to accelerate negotiations on the proposed Niger–Chad oil pipeline, noting its potential to improve energy security, attract investment and create jobs in both countries.

The presidents emphasized the importance of expanding political, scientific, cultural and institutional exchanges at all levels, including through regular sessions of the Joint Mixed High Commission. They reaffirmed their commitment to implementing existing agreements, notably those on visa facilitation and waiver. Déby extended an invitation to Tchiani for an official visit to Chad, with the date to be confirmed.

Senior ministers from Chad's oil and communications ministries arrived in Niamey on 4 August, and a series of technical bilateral meetings took place on 5 August to advance cooperation in oil, energy, telecommunications and trade. Observers say closer Chad–Niger coordination could strengthen regional stability and economic integration if follow‑up measures are implemented effectively.
