Chad and Burkina Faso have discussed strengthening security cooperation, including in the fight against terrorism, the West African country's Ministry of Security announced.
"The discussions focused on strengthening security cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fight against terrorism," the statement read.
A delegation of experts from Chad's Ministry of Public Security and Immigration was received on July 30 by Burkina Faso's Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana.
The Chadian delegation was led by the Director of Human Resources, Finance, Equipment, and Logistics at the ministry, Police Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man. The sides discussed prospects for expanding security cooperation and preparations for a joint commission between the two states.
The Legal Advisor to Chad's Minister of Public Security and Immigration, Mbaï-Naissem Isaac Chamir, stated that the talks were a preparatory step for the joint commission meeting.
"This meeting serves as a platform for exchanging views ahead of the major joint cooperation commission between Burkina Faso and Chad, in the framework of combating the common scourge of terrorism," he noted.
According to Chamir, the initiative reflects the two countries' desire to leverage historical ties and accumulated experience to shape cooperation that meets contemporary security challenges.
"Chad and Burkina Faso share long-standing relations. We have come with a cooperation project to explore opportunities for collaboration with our brotherly country Burkina Faso," the delegation representative added.
The Chadian delegation also praised the reception and expressed hope that the dialogue initiated would lead to the establishment of a solid and mutually beneficial partnership, with respect for the sovereignty of both countries.
Earlier in July, units of Burkina Faso's armed forces, together with Benin's armed forces, began joint patrols in the Koualou border area, strengthening security cooperation amid threats from armed terrorist groups.
