Algeria's National Independent Election Commission (ANIE) has disqualified 14 parties from contesting the parliamentary elections scheduled for July 2, announced interim ANIE President Karim Helfan at a forum organized by the state-run newspaper El Moudjahid.
Helfan stated that these 14 parties currently do not meet the requirements established by current legislation. ANIE also rejected complaints from some parties requesting an extension of the election registration deadline, complaints in which the parties cited administrative delays in the distribution of registration forms.
"It is impossible to extend these legally established deadlines," he noted, recalling that a 45-day period had been provided for the preparation of the necessary documents.
Helfan announced that the administration will mobilize 62,000 polling stations for the elections, including 137 mobile polling stations. According to him, the number of registered voters exceeds 24.5 million, of whom more than 23.6 million reside in Algeria, while approximately 869,000 voters live abroad.
The parliamentary elections in Algeria are scheduled for July 2. In early April, the country's President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, signed the corresponding decree.
